We have a full schedule of panelists, local performers, workshops and others celebrating this year’s theme of “PrattCon Rocks!”.
Jeff Dugan, former television producer for the Discovery Channel, is a funny guy. He started his June 7th program with a 
throw-away joke or three and then headed straight for the other funny bone with a few readings from his book, Ins & Outs: A Life in Television.
Who knew that being the unintended camera pool feed for ALL the networks at Pope John Paul II’s entry into Giants Stadium could be so entertaining? Well, at least in the telling. At the time, perhaps “terrifying” is a better adjective.
How about the best way to get a French television company to cough up the “clean tapes” 
for a television program? Why, have your local fixer pretend to be you having a full-scale meltdown in the office, of course.
And yes, he did work with Oprah while she was in Baltimore.

On Saturday, May 12, Roland Park resident and award-winning writer Sujata Massey wowed a packed room at the Roland Park Branch. Forty people delighted in her presentation about her most recent book, The Widows of Malabar Hill, the first in a new series set in 1920s India. Sujata showed slides of research trips to India for her new Perveen Mistry series as well as some tantalizing tidbits for book two, due out next year. 
The program got rave reviews with one attendee saying, “Great program! Sujata is a fascinating, captivating speaker and author. I loved the Rei Shimura series and I look forward to reading her new series.” Another mentioned, “Sujata is completely charming. I loved her book and am inspired to read more by her.”
Tasty treats were provided by local Indian restaurant Namaste Baltimore. Sujata even brought her homemade traditional Parsi biscuits for everyone.
Fans lined up afterward to buy a signed copy at The Ivy Bookshop’s table.

Spring has sprung and it’s time to start thinking about your outdoor space again. The type of garden you create will invite different birds and insects to your space. The library has books to assist your outdoor beautification, or you can attend a library program to inspire your gardening adventures.
We had a full house for Audubon’s Wildlife Gardening Workshop at the Roland Park Branch. Participants explored strategies for creating gardens that feed birds and butterflies in Baltimore spaces, large and small. “We discussed specific 
plants that offer seeds, berries, nectar, and insects to Baltimore birds,” said presenter Susie Creamer.
Spring workshops also took place at the Patterson Park Branch and Canton Branch. One more “advanced” gardeners’ workshop awaits you at the Hamilton Branch on April 12 at 5:30pm. Please register in advance: baltimore@audubon.org. More info here.
